Eyewear has played a significant role in many people’s lives since 1727, when British opticianEdward Scarlett invented eyeglasses frames that could be positioned over the ears and nose.
Anyone who seeks optometric care wants thoughtful and detailed providers who make them feel at ease, listen to any of their concerns and offer excellent service. [Vision Center is proud to possess all of those qualities, as well as up-to-the-minute technology and knowledge. See how to match eyewear to your lifestyle.
Start with practicality. If you tend to stow your glasses in your pocket, purse or on a nearby open surface, keep in mind that plastic frames can break while metal frames can bend and be repaired. If you use glasses for just driving and leave them in your car, plastic frames can melt or warp, while metal frames will only overheat.
Frame your face. Small frames (and regular-sized frames with aspheric lenses) conceal a strong prescription. Rounded frames on a square face and vice versa flatter your appearance. If you dislike one of your features, such as a weak chin, dark frames deter from it. Cat’s-eyes’ pointed-up corners give your face a rejuvenated look.
Sync it up. If you work in a corporate and/or conservative environment, stainless steel, titanium or rimless frames provide a professional look. For men, metal frames in the colors silver, black, brown and gunmetal easily match traditional suits. For women, burgundy, gold, silver, brown and tortoise shell are classics.
Get creative. Display your artistic side with frames that are out-of-the-ordinary prints (leopards, flowers), colors, shapes and materials (horn, bone and wood might need to be special-ordered). Or, how about retro and vintage styles? They’re always haute couture.
Oh, say can you sea? OK, you’ll need to buy or rent them from a specialty store such as a scuba-diving shop, but we want you to know that prescription underwater goggles and masks do exist. Glasses or contact lenses and underwater masks are a bad mix. But swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving with goggles or masks with lenses that match your prescription provide sharp images of all the glories of the ocean.
